Rubber export up

 The country exported 5,047 tonnes of natural rubber during December 2007 as against 941 tonnes for the same period the previous year.

The total export of rubber during April to December 2007 decreased to 24,110 tonnes from 51,616 tonnes in the same period the previous year, a rubber board statement said on Wednesday.

Import of rubber in December 2007 was 9,974 tonnes against 10,920 tonnes during the same period the previous year.

The cumulative import of rubber during the first nine months of the year 2007-08 was 69,852 tonnes compared to 45,266 tonnes in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Production of natural rubber during December 2007 increased to 1,11,730 tonnes against the production of 1,01,680 tonnes in December 2006.The cumulative production in the first nine months of the current fiscal was 6,20,060 tonnes compared to 6,62,385 tonnes in the corresponding period of the previous year, registering a decline of 6.4 per cent, it said
