Following the most successful season in program history, TheUniversity of Kansas is rewarding head football coach Mark Manginowith a solid pay raise and contract extension. The new deal willkeep Mangino in Lawrence through the 2012 season.
Mangino will receive $2.3 million annually, around half a millionmore than he's currently making. There are incentives that couldraise that total even higher.
Mangino's current deal was set to expire after the 2010 season.
KU finished the 2007 season 12-1 and captured the school's firstever BCS bowl win by defeating Virginia Tech 24-21 in the OrangeBowl. The consensus National Coach of the Year in 2007 is enteringhis 7th season. His 37 wins rank 4th all-time at KU.
The bulk of Mangino's salary, 1.7 million, comes throughprofessional services such as tv and radio show obligations andproduct endorsements.
Should Mangino stay all five years of his contract, he will earnthe retention payment of about $300,000 per year.
The biggest incentive is an additional $225,000 should the Jayhawkswin a national championship.
