Q: What were you doing 30 years ago, today?
A: Ah, my father's 50th birthday and the weekend of the 1978 DurbanJuly Handicap, where the horse with the ironically pertinent nameof "Politician" won. My Dad and his mates would undoubtedly havebeen swapping gambling war stories at his "surprise" birthdayparty, and I would have been hovering around in the hope that theparty spirit might provide enough cover for me to sneak a beer ortwo.

Q: What have you done to make your mother proud?
A: At her request, I hand-painted a birthday card for her 80-year-oldbuddy last weekend. Mothers are powerful things.

Q: What is the most effective brand communication you have ever seen?
A: The latest multi-award-winning campaign for HBO. It's a beautifulexample of what can happen if you put vast sums of money behindbrilliant creativity.

Q: What do you do to encourage creativity in your own life?
A: I am constantly surrounded by inspiring and interesting people andstuff, but getting away from all the noise of life is what I findmost stimulating.

Q: What's your most exciting (non-work) activity?
A: Water tower hunting with my daughter (this involves using acompass to seek out water towers that we spot on the horizon).Geeky, eh?

Q: What's the best way you can think of to celebrate the big"three-oh"?
A: Actually this will be the 20th Loeries I've attendedconsecutively, so I think I should get the Loerie Attendance GrandPrix - that would be nice!
