Provinces hardest hit by Typhoon Frank, particularly those thathave not received adequate relief, are set to receive at least$500,000, or P21.5 million, worth of food donations from San MiguelCorp. (SMC).
The donation is estimated to benefit at least 50,000 families inAklan, Capiz, Antique, and Romblon, provinces identified by theNational Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC), as in dire need offood.
The donation will consist of various food items such as cannedgoods, instant noodles, coffee and bottled water.
Many of our countrymen in these provinces are still struggling tosurvive the aftermath of Typhoon Frank. Right now, hunger is a veryreal problem in these provinces and we would like to help addressthis, SMC president and chief operating officer Ramon Ang said.
We hope our efforts will make some difference not only in theirday-to-day survival but also in their struggle to rebuild theirlives, he added.
Food sources in the province have been scare since the typhoonwreaked havoc on crops over two weeks ago. Fishing has also beenbanned in many areas due to health risks brought about by thesinking of passenger ferry M/V Princess of the Stars in waters offRomblon.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development, meanwhile, hasagreed to channel SMCs food donations to the various ProvincialDisaster Coordinating Councils of the provinces, to allow forspeedier distribution.
