Sambhar Salt refinery to be launched in Oct

JAIPUR: The new salt refinery of Sambhar Salts Limited that has anannual production capacity of one lakh tonnes is getting ready forcommissioning in October. It will cater to the growing requirementof affordable edible salt in the country.
Union Minister of State Raghunath Jha, who visited Sambhar Saltspremises in the lake township of Sambhar here on Saturday, saidthat the new plant would make the company, a subsidiary ofHindustan Salts Limited, a leading supplier of iodised salt. Thenew plant would ensure the availability of quality edible salt,supplemented with iodine, at cheaper rates, he added.
Mr. Jha also met Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje at her office onFriday and discussed the development programmes at Sambhar SaltsLtd. He briefed her on the plans for the development of Sambhar asa tourist spot keeping in view the potential of the Sambhar Lake,which is a wetland listed among the Ramsar sites. Ms. Raje offeredhim all support in the running of the Sambhar Salt units and alsoin the area as a tourist spot.
Chairman and Managing Director of Sambhar Salts M.M. Bhardwaj,claimed that both Hindustan Salts and its subsidiary delivered acommendable performance last year. Both the companies registered arecord production and came out of the red after making losses formany years. The companies are poised to do well this year too, henoted.
