Cuba Saves Money Through Direct Milk Sales

Tag: Powdered Milk

Las Tunas, Cuba, May 15, (acn) .- The province of Las Tunas has saved about two million dollars in less than a year by boosting direct sales of milk to government ration stores.

Some 400 tons of powdered milk did not need to be imported thanks to direct sales of the cherished product, currently selling for more than 5,000 dollars per ton on the international market and rising.

Milk is distributed directly from dairies to the ration stores, substituting powdered milk and pasteurized milk, thus eliminating the cost of transporting milk to pasteurizing plants.

The new distribution model is being applied in 70 percent of the province’s ration stores and is beginning to be applied throughout Cuba to make the dairy industry more efficient.
