Aquarium of the Bay is unique to San Francisco in that the facility features aquaticlife that's native to San Francisco Bay. The aquarium is alsoinvolved in conservation efforts, and supports a number of Bay Areagroups dedicated to the protection of the bay waters.
Inside the aquarium, you'll find 50,000 square feet of marineexhibits -- of jellies and circling herring shoal. Herring are ofparticular interest in our global food chain, as the survival ofmany species of fish, birds and marine mammals hinges on abundantnumbers herring -- at risk of over-fishing, as are most marinespecies.
You'll also walk through a clear, acrylic tunnels that emulateswhat life is like in San Francisco Bay. There's a moving conveyerpath that takes you under and beside swimming sharks, skates, andother Bay animal life.
