Belt parade focuses on family fun

The two children simply took their cowboy hats off their heads andstuffed as much candy as they could inside.

Mike Anderson, Jerrod's dad, said they were eating at the pancakebreakfast when they heard the first sirens from the parade start tocry out around 11 a.m., and off the boys went, Mike said.

"They could hear a siren so they couldn't wait for me to get (abag)," he said. "We started filling pockets and we ran out of room,so we had to fill dad's pockets."

The parade featured fire trucks from the area, all blasting theirhorns, baton twirlers, horses, a few floats and of course theAmerican flag.

After weeks of rain and even snow last week, Marian Permann wasglad to see people standing outside to watch the short, butcolorful, community parade.

"When the flag goes through you can feel the patriotism in theair," Permann said.

Still, most parade watchers were kids, who weren't so much watchingthe parade as they were waiting for the candy to be tossed from thefloats and fire trucks.

Permann was watching her friend's 2-year-old twins Darby andBridger Burnham get up from their seats and run to each piece ofcandy that came rolling their way.

The girls' mother, Andra, had to stop the girls from running allthe way into the street to pick up a spare piece of sweetness.

"If I were a dentist, I'd have a car in the back saying, 'come seeme after the parade,'" Permann said, laughing.

As the caravan kept moving with one last fire truck herding theparade's end, Jerrod and Tate kept holding their cowboy hats out,hoping for one last piece of candy.

When Mike Anderson finally convinced them the parade was over, Tateflipped his candy-filled cowboy hat back on top of his head andwalked away.
