Unilever Japan to raise yellow tea prices for 1st time in decade

Unilever Japan KK said Wednesday that it will raise prices of its24 Lipton and Brooke Bond brand tea products by up to 6.6% on Sept1. The Japanese unit of British-Dutch consumer product giantUnilever will increase the prices for the first time since June1998.
The price hikes reflect surging market prices of tea leaves due tothe unseasonable weather and rising packaging material costs amidsoaring crude oil prices. The company does not set recommendedretail prices, but the shop price for its mainstay product, LiptonYellow Label containing 25 tea bags, is likely to go up some 20 yento around 335 yen.
