The service also allows DSU to integrate information from itscurrent student and employee databases during set up. As a result, the university is able to leverage existing contact details insteadof having to manually enter data, or requiring students and staffto sign up for the service and input their information. This helpsensure that most of the school community will receive criticalalerts.
Students, faculty and staff will be able to update their contactdetails and add new devices through the DSU Web site.
In several recent examples, Instant Alert Plus customers have beenable to reach more than 95 percent of their contacts, which isconsiderably higher than the 20 to 50 percent range that is commonwith campus notification technology.
Customized Control
To activate an alert, administrators only need to place a phonecall or type a message on an Internet-connected computer. InstantAlert Plus uses a series of distributed, redundant call centernetworks to distribute the information, making it one of the mostreliable means of emergency communication available.
Along with broadcasting news, DSU can create an unlimited number oflists and alerts for specific groups, such as residents of aspecific dorm or emergency responders. This gives school officialsthe ability to quickly send messages to contacts who may be inimmediate danger or to responders regarding the location of anemergency.
Two-Way Communication
DSU will use the polling feature of Instant Alert Plus to solicitfeedback from students, faculty and staff. Other features includethe ability to automatically bridge message recipients into aconference call, which is particularly important whenadministrators are off campus and decisions need to be madeimmediately. The service also includes real-time, Web-based reportsthat show who has and has not received a particular alert.
"Planning is key to handling a difficult situation," saidLuca Mazzei, vice president of marketing and strategy at HoneywellBuilding Solutions. "By pulling information from its existingdatabases and using Instant Alert Plus, DSU is not only preparingfor an emergency, but taking the necessary steps to achieve thebest outcome."
Created for municipalities, colleges and universities, businesses, and healthcare and industrial facilities, Instant Alert Plus is anextension of Instant Alert for Schools, a notification service thathelps K-12 school districts improve communication and emergencypreparedness. More than 2,300 schools nationwide use Instant Alertto connect with parents and guardians.
