Josh, only the crappiest of crap games (or games that have been outfor years) cost $20. Try $30-$35 for anything worth playing. No, Ido not pretend to know how much it costs to develop, market,produce, and sell a video game. Nor do I know how much profitmargin or how many units are being sold. But neither do you, so myopinion is just as good as yours (mine as at least based on the"hunch" that games are really, really profitable so long as theyaren't 3D CGI masterpieces that take years to develop).
Travis, some of the $35 games are respectable achievements for ahandheld (certainly not Trauma Center, though). And I agree thatfor some of those games, I'm totally fine paying the money. But I'mnot alleging that the cream-of-the-crop isn't "worth" $30-$35 to agamer. Nor am I alleging that "lack of technological prowess" and"fun" are mutually exclusive. I'm alleging that:
a) it's (probably) highway robbery in terms of margin;
b) it's a diluted market whereby 90% of DS games aren't worth $5 (
Seriously, how many cookie-cutter Phoenix Wright / Pokemon / RPGports / bad sports ports / Brain games / Nickelodeon crap do wehave to sift through to find good games?); and
c) although it could be fun, if a game is not a technologicallyimpressive game, it was not difficult, nor expensive, to develop,especially if it is just a DS incarnation of an old game.
I think these are reasonable points. Keep in mind that I AM a DSuser and a Nintendo lifer who thoroughly enjoys the top 10% of DSgames. But I refuse to sympathize with Nintendo on this issue.
