Hot heads make Nokia ears burn

NOKIA customers are complaining of burning ears after reports that one of the mobile phone manufacturer's models heated up to uncomfortable temperatures.

Users of Nokia's 6120 Classic handset report that when used for more than five minutes the handset gets so hot that calls must be terminated or the user must switch the handset from ear to ear to dissipate the heat.

Environmental consultant Tim Phillips purchased his Nokia 6120 Classic from Telstra as part of a 24-month plan, but mere minutes into his first conversation, he noticed the earpiece would quickly rise in temperature.

"After only a few minutes of talking the handset gets so hot that I have to switch ears," he said. Mr Phillips pursued the overheating problem with Nokia's online customer support centre but was informed the handset was operating within industry standards.

"Mr Phillips, your Nokia 6120 Classic mobile phone is designed and tested to ensure that it is in compliance with health and safety regulations of concerned international organisations," wrote a Nokia customers support person. Mr Phillips has since returned his phone to Telstra to start the warranty process, but he does not expect a satisfactory fix.

Western Australia resident Susan Anderson has been enduring the same overheating problems with her Nokia 6210 Classic.
