A new federal law is designed to make the 911 system accessible to people who use the Internet to make phone calls.
U.S. Representative John Shimkus says the law will require telephone companies to share information with Internet providers, so that 911 centers can find out where an emergency call is coming from. Shimkus says the problem has been that 911 service hasn't kept up with the option of making phone calls through the computer.
