The woman said she chased the man to Seminole Road where he gotaway. Deputies said that the woman had lacerations to her face and otherinjuries that were treated by emergency medical service workers.
Investigators said the man had run off with a gold chain necklaceworth $800, a chain with a cross and diamond worth $250, a chainwith a diamond pendant worth about $150, and the woman's Nokia cellphone.
Based on a description, deputies spotted the suspect, MichaelEugene Simmons, 35, on Seminole Road near Seminole Court. He tookoff on foot with deputies in pursuit and was apprehended nearScrevans Court and Johnson Street.
They said he was initially uncooperative, but later directed themto a gold chain that he had dropped into a cinderblock and the cellphone that he had dropped behind the Una Post Office. The chain with the cross was found in the woman's yard, but thechain with the diamond pendant was not found.
Deputies said that Simmons was taken to Spartanburg RegionalHospital for treatment of an ankle injury he suffered during thechase.
Simmons was charged with strong-arm robbery, and also in connectionto an outstanding warrant for obtaining goods under falsepretenses.
