MILAN, 31 July 2008 Prysmian Cables and Systems, a worldwideleading group in the sectors of cables and systems for energy andtelecommunications and one of the largest Italian companies presentin China, has facilitated a high value project for the Beijing 2008Olympic Games, developing the High Voltage Power Grid to supplyenergy to the Olympic Village. Under the commitment of China StateGrid., Prysmian commissioned 20km of high voltage cables at 220kVto supply energy to the village that covers over 66 hectares ofland.
Prysmians stamp will also be on the International BroadcastingCentre, from which RAI Television, Italys premier televisioncompany, will be transmitting footage from the Olympics. The Grouphas in fact cabled RAIs entire broadcasting centre, providingconnections of a high technical level capable of ensuring thehighest quality of transmissions. Prysmian has supplied all thepassive media and LAN cables under RAIs specifications, including:broadcasting cabling and connectors for media transmission; audiocabling and connectors; UTP CAT 5E & CAT 6 cabling for LANconnectivity; MMF fibre cabling for broadcast backbone andbroadband transmission, and RF radio frequency cabling andconnectors.
Prysmian is one of the Italian companies with the biggest presencein China, where it has 5 manufacturing plants and over 1000employees. Prysmian has recently opened a new plant in Beijing andpresented an ambitious development plan outlining its activities inChina, which aim to achieve growth of about 50% of its business by2010 and foresees further investments to increase productioncapabilities. The total value of the investments Prysmian has madein China over the last few years and those foreseen in the plan ispredicted to be over 100 million euros.
