TOKYO , Aug. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- ACCESS CO., LTD., a global provider of advancedsoftware technologies to the mobile and beyond-PC markets, todayannounced the Company concluded a System Engineering Assistanceagreement with NTT DOCOMO, INC. on July 16, 2008 . According to the terms of the agreement, ACCESS will create thetechnical specifications for co-developing an operator pack forACCESS Linux Platform(TM) for DOCOMO's FOMA(TM) 3G handsets. FOMA(Freedom Of Mobile multimedia Access) is the brand name for NTTDOCOMO's 3G services, and was the world's first W-CDMA 3G service,launched in 2001. The two companies are targeting the conclusion ofan agreement detailing software development work for the FOMAoperator pack during August.
The FOMA operator pack is an integrated application package thatimplements services such as i-mode(TM). It will run on ACCESS LinuxPlatform, an open, flexible and scalable shared Linux-basedplatform that enables the creation of world-class mobile phones andsupports the specifications of the LiMo Foundation(TM) (LiMo(TM)).Development of the FOMA operator pack for ACCESS Linux Platformwill make it possible for mobile handset manufacturers worldwide toprovide immediate support for DOCOMO on their own devices.
ACCESS and DOCOMO play leading roles in the LiMo Foundation, adedicated consortium of mobile industry leaders working together todeliver an open and globally consistent handset software platformbased on Mobile Linux.
