Review: Just Mobile Xtand for iPhone

Designed to match the bodies of Apple’s Cinema Displays andmetal iMacs, Xtand is sold in two main pieces: an iPhone cradlethat holds the first-generation iPhone with rubberized corners anda molded aluminum frame, plus a curved stand that looks likeApple’s monitor stands, down to the hole in the center forcable management.

You connect the two pieces with a rubber washerand screw-based tightening system that lets you adjust theiPhone’s height and rotation, with slight tweaks to its angleas well. Rubber pads on the stand keep it in place, and unscuffed,on a flat surface.
 
There’s very little to complain about in Xtand’sexecution. Just Mobile’s design, while clearly heavilyinfluenced by Apple’s, offers iPhone users the opportunity tocompletely match the look of Apple’s desktop machines withwhat can look like a miniature monitor for video or widescreenalbum browsing, shifting effortlessly to a vertical modeappropriate to most of the iPhone’s other features.

Therubber corners hold the iPhone properly while providing access toall of the ports and controls, including the speakerphone and DockConnector, headphone port and volume buttons. In other words, youriPhone is as useful inside Xtand as it is in your hand, but moreconveniently mounted for viewing and other tabletop use. Xtand wasclearly engineered with considerable thought and precision;everything just works.
