Two-in-one choke absorbs common-mode

A new current-compensated POWER line choke has been introduced by Wurth Elektronik EMC & Inductive Solutions.

The WE-FC series achieves its performance using a bobbin placed around the core. This configuration offers several advantages. On one hand, the capacity of the winding diminishes through the two-chamber winding. On the other hand, the resistance against burst and surge impulses is improved because the beginning and end of the coils are well-separated. Furthermore the impact of the push-pull is explicitly improved because of the higher leakage inductance.

The WE-FC offers a 4-5 dB higher attenuation at common-mode interference than conventional chokes (in the upper frequency range). A considerably higher attenuation is reached with push-pull interference in the entire frequency range. The WE-FC is a two-in-one component which absorbs both common-mode and push-pull interferences, while maintaining the smallest form factor possible, says the company.
