Coach says Hardy's test was from 'inadvertent consumption'

SANTA ANA, Calif. World champion swimmer Jessica Hardy is one of at least sevenmembers of the 2008 U.S. Olympic team who are listed as endorsersof a nutritional supplements and sport performance products companywhose products have been banned by the NCAA and have been linked topositive drug tests.
Dave Salo, Hardy's coach at the Trojan Swim Club, told the OrangeCounty Register on Thursday he thinks Hardy's positive drug test atthe recent U.S. Olympic Trials for the banned stimulant clenbuterolwas the result of "inadvertent consumption of a banned substance"possibly through supplements or vitamins.
Hardy, an Orange, Calif., native who won the Trials 100-meterbreaststroke and qualified for the Beijing Games in three otherevents, has been listed as an endorser of AdvoCare products on herpersonal Web site, the company's Web site and other sportsnutritional sites.
Larsen Jensen, the former Mission Viejo (Calif.) Nadadores swimmerwho holds the American record in the 400-meter freestyle, also islisted as an endorser on various Web sites.
The NCAA has banned schools from distributing some AdvoCareproducts because of health and performance enhancement concerns.The NCAA said an AdvoCare product has been linked to positive drugtests by college athletes for the stimulant synephrine.
