Lake Pardee isn’t one of thestate’s better kokanee fisheries, but it’s come a longway in a short period of time and can provide anglers with anunderfished option that yields easy limits during the heat ofsummer.

“It’s a super deal on Pardee: The fish are running 13to 14 inches and they were 10 inches two years ago,” notesguide Fred Thomason of Last Cast Guide Service (209-245-6632; lastcastguide.com ). “In August, I’d look for 15-inchers.”

A 15-inch kokanee is massive for Pardee, a reservoir previouslyknown as one of the state’s poorest kokanee fisheries inregards to size. This summer, though, trollers working the mainbody can find consistent action. Thomason recommends pulling aCrystal Basin Wild Thing with a spinner that’s tipped withnatural or orange Fire Corn. He’ll also troll an Apex withouta dodger.

Thomason warns anglers not to troll too fast; he advises 1.5 mph orless. He believes that during the summer, lures need to be keptwithin 10 inches of the dodger, no more.
