Joining Agilent Technologies’ GS-8800 family of RF designverification and conformance test systems is the GS-8852, a GSM,GPRS, and EGPRS test system for mobile handset conformance test.According to the company, the GS-8852 leverages measurement speed, accuracy, and repeatability to significantly increase testthroughput, while ensuring production of high-quality devices.

The 2G RF conformance test system can be used by wireless testlaboratories, handset manufacturers, reference design and chipsetvendors, and NEMs performing full wireless RF conformance test. Ittests devices for conformance to the individual test standards asprescribed by the Global Certification Forum (GCF) or PCS-typecertification review board (PTCRB) for UMTS mobile phones. Thesystem also provides RF transmitter, receiver, and performancetests in accordance with the 3GPP TS51.010-1 test specification forGSM, GPRS, and EGPRS technology—all within a single platform.Support for DARP technology will be available in the near future.

The GS-8852 supports a range of bands, including GSM 850, GSM 900,DCS 1800, and PCS 1900, and provides an easy upgrade path forfuture 3G/3.5G formats. Measurement capabilities are augmented byan RF interface module, which handles RF switching andconditioning. Software includes predefined tests that conform tothe individual technology standard, as well as a designverification environment where users can configure or modify tests.
