TDK unveils low-profile PFC choke transformers

TDK has announced the development of a new series of low-profilePFC choke transformers optimised for use in flat panel displays.The PFC series features low profile, from 27mm to 15mm, less volumeand less weight. This facilitates slimmer flat panel displaydesigns, allowing for lower-cost mass production of wall-mountedsets. This development is made possible through the use of PC47, ahigh-saturation flux density ferrite material developed by TDK andused in the wound core of the coil. PC47 enables the PFC choketransformer cores to be wound more tightly, but the core is alsowound with an oval, rather than round cross section, facilitatingthe significantly reduced profile. The use of PC47 in the PFCseries means that the performance can remain the same as thecurrent SRW4025EC choke transformers, but with reduction inmeasurement specifications. The line-up of the new choketransformers consists of components ranging from 75W to 300W. Itconsists of a total of 12 different products in four series, withdimensions 30 x 37 x 15, which enable users to choose the optimaltransformer for specific applications. Mass production of the PFCtransformer series will begin in summer 2008.
