Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI), a global leader in high-performancesemiconductors for signal-processing applications, is expanding itsfamily of interface products with the industry's first fullyisolated single-package surface mount RS-232 transceiver withintegrated dc-to-dc converter to supply isolated power. Featuring avery small form factor SMT (surface-mount technology) package, theADM3251E transceiver integrates a line driver, line receiver,oscillator, rectifier, regulator, voltage doubler, voltage inverterand transformers into a single-chip solution that isolates both thedata and power lines on chip.
The transceiver's SMT package allows system manufacturers to mountthe device using fully automated production tools, which reducesmanufacturing steps and improves mechanical performance. Thesmaller footprint additionally frees up circuit board space forother system functions. The highly integrated device provides arobust serial communications interface with isolated power for usein harsh HVAC, industrial and medical applications.
