Three-phase gate driver IC with integrated operational amplifier

International Rectifier has launched its IRS233x(D) family ofthree-phase gate driver ICs.

The range covers low-, mid-, and high-voltage motor driveapplications including permanent magnet (PM) motor drives for airconditioners, washing machines, pumps and fans, and micro, mini andgeneral purpose inverter drives.

The IRS233x(D) is a high-voltage, high speed power MOSFET and IGBTthree-phase bridge- driver with referenced output channels toprovide 200 mA/420 mA drive current at up to 20 V MOS gate drivecapability operating up to 600 V.

The new devices feature an integrated ground-referenced operationalamplifier to provide analogue feedback of the bridge current via anexternal current sense resistor and optional integrated bootstrapdiode to reduce external part count and reduce PCB size.

This comprehensive family provides protection including proprietarynegative voltage spike (Vs) immunity for safe operation underextreme switching conditions and short circuit events. The outputdrivers feature a high pulse current buffer stage designed forminimum driver cross-conduction. Propagation delays are matched tosimplify use at high frequencies. The floating channel can be usedto drive N-channel power MOSFET or IGBT in the high-sideconfiguration.

The new ICs utilize IRs advanced high-voltage IC process whichincorporates next-generation high-voltage level-shifting andtermination technology to deliver superior electrical over-stressprotection and higher field reliability. In addition toover-current detection input, the IRS233x(D) features under-voltagelock-out protection, integrated deadtime protection, shoot-throughprotection, fault-reporting, and is compatible with 3.3 V inputlogic.
