SES Astra orders new satellite from EADS unit Astrium

PARIS (Thomson Financial) - SES Astra, ( News ) a unit of SES SA, said it has ordered a new satellite, Astra 1N,from EADS ( News / Aktienkurs ) unit Astrium.
The purchase price was not disclosed.
The spacecraft is scheduled for launch in 2011 and will bepositioned at 19.2 degrees east, mainly to serve the German, Frenchand Spanish markets, and to provide customers with continuousoperating and back-up satellite capacity.
Astra 1N will have 55 transponders with pan-European coverage, andwill operate in the Ku frequency band. Its expected lifetime is 15years, SES Astra said.
The satellite will be built on a Eurostar E3000 platform, thelatest version of Astriums Eurostar series which has proven to behighly reliable in commercial service, the company said.
After Astra 2B, 1M and 3B, Astra 1N will be the fourth ASTRAsatellite to be built by Astrium.
