MGE Office Protection Systems’ Personal Solution Pac (PSP) v3for Linux and Network Shutdown Module v3 are the first UPS powermanagement solutions to receive Ubuntu’s Independent HardwareVendor (IHV) Certification.
Jaco du Plooy, technical sales & support for MGE OfficeProtection Systems, says the software allows UPS integration bydefault and is designed to assure communication, monitoring andgraceful shutdown during prolonged power disturbances.
“Compatible with Ubuntu releases from 6.06 to 7.10, the PSPsoftware is targeted at desktop and SoHo users while the NetworkShutdown Module offers a range of advanced functionality fornetwork installations and enterprise applications.”
Designed for desktop and server applications, PSP for Linuxprovides users with information on important parameters such aspower consumption and remaining UPS battery life, including anintuitive screen that displays remaining battery backup timeavailable.
This real-time indicator works in conjunction with a powerconsumption sensor that detects how much of the UPS’s ratedpower is being used by connected equipment, to help users avoidoverloading it. With an intuitive graphical user interface, thesoftware displays a real-time view of on-site power quality andincludes the ability to set-up automatic actions in case of a poweremergency.
“For ease in communicating with connected devices, PSPautomatically detects USB or serial connections and the softwareinstantly avoids communication conflicts by automatically detectingavailable communication ports,” says du Plooy. “Inaddition, manual controls enable administrators to customisecommunication configurations.”
