A NUMBER of commercial buildings, including banks, restaurants,offices and retail shops, have placed heavy generators outsidetheir premises or on footpaths, causing noise and air pollutionbesides stopping the way of pedestrians.

Most of these commercial entrepreneurs installed heavy generatorsfollowing the ongoing loadshedding while one can witness hundredsof generators running simultaneously in commercial markets likeLiberty Market, Ichra, Anarkali, etc when the electricity shut downis going on.

Lahorites are already facing serious threats from the rising levelsof noise pollution on different city roads and crossings especiallyon the Ferozpur Road, the Multan Road, the Jail Road, The Mall, theCanal Bank Road, the Wahdat Road and the Circular Road.

One can hear the heavy noise of generators in almost every streetin the provincial capital and the people residing in flats incommercial markets are having serious problems with the noise aswell as smoke.

In most of the commercial areas, people place their generatorseither outside their premises or at the footpath so that they cansave themselves from the noise. A very thin majority has installedheavy generators at the rooftop or at the back side of theirbusiness areas. According to the traders, the main reason forplacing generators outside their business areas is lack of space.
