Ex-Techsters coach tops Hall of Fame 2009 class

The new class was announced Sunday during the WNBA game between theConnecticut Sun and the Washington Mystics and also includesCynthia Cooper-Dyke, Jennifer Azzi, Jennifer Gillom, Jill Hutchisonand Ora Washington.
The class will be honored June 13 at the hall in Knoxville. The sixnew inductees will bring the total hall of fame membership to 109.
Hogg started the Louisiana Tech women's basketball program whileteaching physical education there and nicknamed the team the LadyTechsters. Under Hogg, the Lady Techsters won the inaugural NCAAchampionship game in 1982 after winning the AIAW Championship theprevious season.
In 2004, Hogg was awarded the Naismith Women's OutstandingContribution to Basketball Award.
Cooper-Dyke is one of three Olympic gold medalists in the newinduction class.
Cooper-Dyke won a gold medal in the 1998 Olympics. She was anational champion at Southern California in 1983 and 1984 and afour-time WNBA champion with the Houston Comets.
She was the first WNBA player to reach 2,500 points. Cooper-Dykenow coaches at Prairie View A&M.
After leading Stanford to the national championship and winning theWade Trophy and Naismith Player of the Year award, the All-AmericanAzzi won a gold medal with the 1996 women's Olympic basketballteam.
Gillom won gold with the 1988 Olympic team and went on to play withthe Phoenix Mercury for six years and the Los Angeles Sparks forone. She made two appearances in the NCAA regional semifinals withOle Miss, where the sports complex is named for her and her sisterPeggy.
Hutchison spent 28 seasons coaching Illinois State, guiding theprogram to three NCAA tournaments and six WNIT appearances.
Hutchison served as the first president of the Women's BasketballCoaches Association and testified at the U.S. congressionalhearings on Title IX. College football
LSU: The LSU Tigers received their 14th recruiting commitment whenStavian Lowe of Brownwood, Texas, announced an oral commitment onSunday.
Lowe, a 6-foot-4, 295-pound offensive guard, is the 12th-ratedoffensive tackle in the country according to Rivals.com.
Lowe had more than 25 scholarships offers and narrowed his finalchoices to LSU, Oklahoma and Auburn before committing to LSU.
Oral commitments are not binding.
GEORGIA: Michael Lemon, a sophomore defensive end for the GeorgiaBulldogs, has been dismissed from the team.
In a statement posted Sunday on the team's Web site, head coachMark Richt says Lemon was dismissed "as a result of some poordecisions and conduct that is not in line with standards we have inplace at Georgia."
Lemon was suspended from the team earlier this month after beingcharged with punching a student and breaking his eye socket. He ischarged with misdemeanor battery and felony aggravated battery.
Richt says Lemon expressed a desire return to the team, but thathas yet to be decided.

WIZARDS: Gilbert Arenas signed his six-year, $111 million contractwith the Washington Wizards on Sunday, securing the return of afranchise player who is accepting less money than he was offered.
Arenas and the Wizards agreed to the deal July 3, but both sideswaited until Arenas returned from an overseas trip to settle thedetails.
"Today is a great day for the Wizards organization," team presidentErnie Grunfeld said. "Gilbert is a phenomenal player and his valueto the franchise goes beyond what he brings to the court. We'reproud and excited that we were able to take care of our own freeagents and open the 2008-09 season with a healthy core intact." Miscellaneous
POKER: Phil Hellmuth was eliminated from the World Series of Pokermain event on Sunday, ensuring that the no-limit Texas Hold 'emtournament will see a new person crowned champion in November.
Hellmuth, who won the main event in 1989 and has won a record 11events at the world series, pushed in his last 405,000 chips onSunday with an ace and a queen and found himself against the jacksof New York poker player Andrew Rosskamm.
Hellmuth, who was a slight underdog in the hand, had an ace-highflush draw after the turn, the fourth community card. But a two ofspades fell on the river, and Hellmuth was eliminated in 45thplace. He won $154,400.
"I never win a coin flip at the world series," said Hellmuth, thelast remaining main event winner in the tournament field.
"And I don't play coin flips because I'm the best."
"That's the first time I've been (all-in) in like two days,"Hellmuth said.
