HAGERSTOWN, MD - A 10-year old boy was seriously burned at a summer camp when hewas playing with an electrical socket.
A Hagerstown Community College spokesperson tells NBC25 the boy was shocked seriously Thursday morning in one of theircomputer classrooms.
A college spokesperson says the boy was shocked when he stuck apaper clip into an electrical socket.
The result was a serious burn on his hand.
Due to the type of injury, rescue officials decided to airlift theboy to John’s Hopkins Children's Hospital in Baltimore.
The victim was one of many kids at the college participating inCollege for Kids, a summer camp that gives kids of all ages achance to take specialized classes in subjects like art, scienceand technology.
School officials don't know how many students were in the classroomat the time the boy was shocked, but they stress that the injurywas unrelated to anything he was working on for camp.
“Obviously in a computer lab there are electrical outlets asa part of what's needed for the equipment, and unfortunately thischild chose to do something that did not have a positiveoutcome,” said Beth Stull with HCC.
Officials say they'll be sending home a letter with campers to letparents know the details of what happened.
The condition of the boy is unknown, but his injuries are believedto be non-life threatening.
