BOSTON/EWORLDWIRE/May 15, 2008 --- New software released for CAMIResearch's CableEye Cable and Wire Harness Tester permitsproduction engineers to utilize synthetic speech and voicerecognition for hands-free operation. Voice recognition permits theoperator to issue commands to the tester without pushing buttons orkeyboard keys. Synthetic speech may be employed during productionto read pin numbers or provide assembly instructions.

Voice control increases throughput, reduces transcription errors,and helps technicians avoid repetitive motion injury to the neckand shoulders by eliminating the need to look constantly betweenthe workpiece and the video screen. A single-ear USB headset withnoise-canceling microphone allows the system to operate in a noisyenvironment without interfering with other workers while stillpermitting the worker to hear ringing telephones, pages, or firealarms. Voice control can be used alone or in combination withstandard button controls and bar-code scanning to obtain theoptimal efficiency for specific tasks.

Windows XP and Vista include basic male and female voice fonts, anda speech recognizer. High-quality voice fonts from AT&T may beemployed for more realistic speech sound and are available fromCAMI Research.

The CableEye Model M3U Cable Tester sells for $2195 for 152 testpoints, is expandable to over 2000 points, and includes softwareand free tech support. The speech function is built-in. Ahigh-quality AT&T voice font adds $95 to the system price and canbe provided with English, Spanish, French, or German speechmodules.
