BAE Systems, under an agreement with Micromem Applied SensorTechnologies, announced it will co-produce nano-sensor technologythat will leverage both companies' use in military, commercial, andhomeland security applications.
As a foundry and business development partner with Micromem AppliedSensor Technologies, BAE Systems said its Microelectronics Centerin Nashua, New Hampshire, will develop Micromem designs andmanufacturability for magnetic random-access memory (MRAM)products.
"Foundry facilities are very expensive, and development work on newproducts is highly capital-intensive," said Gino Manzo, foundrydirector at BAE Systems in Nashua. "This arrangement will advancetechnology and design maturity for products developed by Micromemby giving both companies the means to produce devices for a widerange of commercial and military uses."
Micromem Applied Sensor Technologies' patented submicronnano-sensor, based on MRAM technology, also can be designed for usein highly accurate magnetometers -- instruments used to measure thestrength and/or direction of magnetic fields -- and forthreat-detection solutions for defense and homeland security, thegroups noted in a release.
