Blackerby to succeed founder Swaldo at ASC Industries

GREEN William Thomas Blackerby has been named president and chiefexecutive officer of water pump manufacturer ASC Industries.
Blackerby succeeds Theodore V. Swaldo, ASC's founder, who willretire after serving as president and CEO since 1989. Blackerby hasbeen with ASC since 1992 and its chief operating officer since2004.
Swaldo will move into a senior adviser role with ASC and its parentcompany, United Components, until his retirement at the end ofJanuary.
Blackerby holds a bachelor's degree in finance from Georgia StateUniversity and a master's from the University of Akron. Prior tobecoming ASC's COO, he was executive vice president and chieffinancial officer.
ASC Industries was purchased by Evansville, Ind.-based United for$154 million in 2006.
The manufacturer traces its roots to 1976 as American SwitchgearCorp., a maker of custom high-voltage power equipment, and expandedin 1987 as a private label manufacturer and distributor of waterpumps for the automotive aftermarket.
The company built a facility in the North Canton Industrial Parkfor water-pump manufacturing and changed its name to ASC. In the1990s, product offerings were expanded and the company reached outto find manufacturing sources abroad. The electrical systems groupwas sold off and co-founder Swaldo became the sole owner.
