Eaton buys power solutions firm MGE UPS Systems

U.S.-based diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton has acquiredpower solutions Schneider Electric's small systems subsidiary, MGEUPS (Uninterruptible Power Supplies) Systems.
This move, which cost US$612 million (RM1.93 billion), is to helpEaton's expansion strategy by using MGE's presence in more than 40countries, according to sources at Eaton.
Eaton Small Systems vice president and general manager Hervé Tardysaid, "Through this acquisition, Eaton is now the world's secondlargest manufacturer and supplier of single-phase uninterruptiblepower systems. Both companies are committed to innovation,outstanding client relationships, and exceptional customer serviceand support."
Tardy explained that Eaton Corp. is a diversified industrialmanufacturer with 2006 sales of $12.4 billion. Eaton provideselectrical systems and components for power quality, distributionand control as well as fluid power systems and services forindustrial, mobile and aircraft equipment.
He said that MGE's small systems business employs around 800 peopleworldwide and is a global provider of power solutions designed toincrease the availability and uptime of mission-criticalapplications and processes.
Malaysia-based SEA zone manager Cheryl Tong said enterprises in theregion now can deploy UPS solutions, power distribution units,static transfer switches and surge suppressors offered by thecombined companies.
