Millions of American women would love to dress like Sarah Jessica Parker ...down to her $600 shoes.

But Sarah Jessica has helped drain the bank account of many a woman, trying to emulate her fashion sense.

Potential good news: now, as "Sex in the City" moves up to the big screen, the price of Sarah's clothing is moving down ....to just $8.98!

I accompanied Suzanne -- TV news producer and fashionista-- to Steve and Barry's.... the sporting goods chain where almost everything is under $10.

Here, among the sweatshirts that made the store popular, is Sarah Jessica's new clothing line called "Bitten."

Suzanne was bitten....calling the floral dresses perfect for summer parties, and the black dresses good enough for work or wedding.

At $9, they even come with a lining, which surprised Suzanne.

But how do they fit?

Suzanne modeled Sarah Jessica's 9 dollar black dress.... 9 dollar party dress ....9 dollar yellow dress ....and 9 dollar blue dress....which reminded Suzanne of one in Banana Republic's catalog.

We checked Banana Republic's website, and saw a very similar blue floral dress for $150. Of course, the fabric and quality may be much better.

Steve and Barry's says it keeps costs down with low overhead... and pays the dress makers -- mostly in India -- what it calls an "ethical" wage. Shopper Starr Richardson is sold.

"It's a good dress," she said. "And a nice price!"

Bottom Line

Will a $9 dress last for years, through multiple washings and wearings? Probably not. But unlike me, most women don't wear their outfits hundreds of times.

If youre looking for a fun summer dress for a fun occasion....you might want to give Sarah Jessica a look so you don't waste your money. I'm John Matarese.
