Allyn International Manages Transformer Delivery to Alabama PowerFacility - "A shipment of this size requires very detailed planning andcoordination, which is our specialty," commented Alfredo Rodriguez,Allyn 3PL manager.
FORT MYERS, Fla. (Aug. 21, 2008) - Allyn International Services,Inc. (Allyn) was selected to manage transportation of a transformerfrom the port of Mobile, Ala. to a power plant in Eastaboga, Ala.on behalf of FPL Energy.

The transformer was shipped by barge from Fort Myers, Fla. to theport of Mobile. The Allyn 3PL department managed the project fromMobile to the power plant. The transformer was lifted from thebarge onto a depressed center flat car using a Liebherr LTM 1800mobile crane. Once the transformer was secured to the rail car, adedicated train was used to deliver it to a rail siding nearEastaboga. It was then transloaded to a mafi trailer and deliveredby truck to the power plant. The entire transport cycle wascompressed into one week.

"This 244,000 lb. transformer move included 3transport modes, 4 crane lifts and reinforcement of the bridgesusing jacks along the route due to the weight of the transformer."

TheAllyn team uses rail transport for heavy/out-of-gauge loads as analternative to trucking due to rising diesel prices. Rail can bemore economical depending on several factors including type ofcargo, weight and distance.
