Ceramic pottery makers to make electrical insulators

" Uttar Pradesh's 400-km radius, no one manufactures suchinsulators. Rural electrification, which is to be carried over inthe next 15 years, gives immense scope for the ceramic artisans. Wehave submitted a proposal regarding the making of such insulatorsto the Central government and are awaiting approval," BibekanandRay, executive director, Grameen crafts told Business Standard.
Grameen craft (GC), a Lucknow-based fair-trade organisation,undertakes projects at different districts in Uttar Pradesh in anattempt to help provide employment to the artisans and supporttheir welfare activities.
They are involved in ceramic production in the districts of Lucknowand Khurja. The Ceramic factory spread across 21,000 square feet inLucknow is located at dewa road.
" 40 artisan families are directly involved at the factory, andtheir income has gown up by 80 per cent after our intervention.With this new initiative we want to employ 100 more people over aspan of 3 years," Ray said.
The total estimated cost of the project is Rs 2.39 crore. " of thetotal cost, we want 75 per cent of it from the central government,"he added. The organisation has decided to bear 10 per cent and willensure the rest 15 per cent for the project itself.
The insulators will vary in the power ranging from 11 Kv to 33 Kvand will be priced between Rs 20 to Rs 400. " will make and sellproducts and will also impart training to the artisans," he said.
