The route is the preferred alternative and has the lowest overallimpact, TVA said. It would affect 16 pieces of property.
TVA said it will work with landowners to get 100-foot easements forconstruction, operation and maintenance of the line. Owners wouldkeep their property; TVA would pay them for the legal right to putthe line across the land and maintain it.
Acquisition of easements could begin next summer, with constructionperhaps beginning in spring 2010, the agency said.

The Maury-Rutherford line is being built to run from a TVAsubstation north of Columbia to a new substation under constructionnear Eagleville in Rutherford County.
TVA, the nation's largest public power provider, is self-financing.It provides virtually all the electricity sold in Tennessee as wellas parts of six other states. It also manages the Tennessee Riverfor flood control, navigation, hydroelectric power, cooling forpower plants, drinking water supplies and aquatic habitat.
