Aurora Networks adds optical power level management

JUNE 26, 2008 -- Aurora Networks (search for Aurora Networks ) has expanded its family of Light-Plex integrated opticalnarrowcast demuxplexers and broadcast/narrowcast combiners. Thecompany's new OP4528 features built-in optical power levelmanagement capabilities, which Aurora asserts will simplify theinstallation, set up, and maintenance of "fiber deep" DWDMarchitectures.
Aurora designed the OP4528 for installation in its VHub, whichserves up to 20,000 homes in a standard node housing. As cableoperators add new video or data carriers, they can use the OP4528to realign power levels remotely via an SNMP interface to anelement management system. Previously, operators needed tocoordinate a headend tech and field tech to simultaneously set upthe link. The OP4528 also enables cable operators to add opticalwavelengths without interrupting existing narrowcast services totheir subscribers, Aurora says.
