Irdeto to protect content & business model protection to Chinese cable networks

Over two million smartcards to be deployed
Beijng, China . - Irdeto, a leading expert in content and businessmodel protection solutions and services, today announced that HebeiBroadcasting and Television Information Network (Group) Co., LTDand Xinjiang Broadcast & Television Transmission Network havechosen the Irdeto DVB conditional access solution for their digitalmigration process. With these agreements, Irdeto is slated todeliver two million smart cards to both of these cable networksover the next 24 months.
Hebei is Chinas sixth largest province with 67.4 million peopleand with nearly 6.5 million cable TV subscribers. HebeiBroadcasting and Television, a provincial-level cable TV networkoperator, selected Irdeto to simulcrypt with its existingconditional access system and has agreed to purchase 1 millionsmart cards to be delivered within the first 18 months ofdeployment.
Xinjiang province in Western China is home to an estimated 1.3million cable TV subscribers. The Irdeto DVB conditional accesssolution was selected by Xinjiang Broadcast & TelevisionTransmission Network to securely enable the sale of high quality,premium content to its subscribers.
These two digital migration projects demonstrate the speed at whichChinas middle class is growing as well as the impact that thegovernment-backed initiative is having on the adoption andmigration of digital TV broadcast in China. As a result, China isseeing an increase in digital cable television enabling thedelivery of new levels of viewing experiences to the worlds mostpopulous country.
