SAN DIEGO--( BUSINESS WIRE )--Ethertronics Inc., a leading provider of standard and customizedembedded antenna solutions for wideband and multi-band wirelessdevices, today unveiled two new internal DVB-H and FM antennasdesigned to power an array of advanced industrial designs, mobilehandsets and video products. As part of Ethertronics ’ new Tavvel TM line of actively tuned embedded antennas, which providesignificant link budget improvements while maintaining a simpleinterface, compact size, and low current consumption, both theDVB-H and FM antenna solutions are engineered to address thechallenges associated with incorporating multiple RF functions intoportable devices.
Ethertronics ’ Tavvel TM embedded tunable DVB-H antenna delivers on the key needs of today ’ s portable media product designers by delivering high performanceand low power consumption for small form factors including mobilephones, notebook computers, portable media players and other videoproducts. Designed to operate on the entire DVB-H range offrequencies, from 474 to 870 MHz, Ethertronics ’ tunable DVB-H antenna has been optimized to deliver averageefficiency of 40 percent with current consumption of less than100uAmps with a compact footprint of 50x13x1mm. In addition, theantenna element can be implemented in a variety of device formfactors and requires a simple DC control voltage between 0 to 2.8Vto tune the antenna to a specific frequency (channel) within theDVB-H band.
The new Tavvel TM embedded active FM antenna solution is ideal for integration intohandheld devices, cellular phones, PDAs, laptops and other devices.Measuring approximately one cm 3 , the tunable antenna operates at the frequency range of 87.5 – 108 MHz ensuring maximum performance at every FM channel in theband. Performance is within 1-1.5dB as compared to traditionalheadset lead-wire antennas. The FM antenna solution ’ s current consumption is only 2.8 mA, and tunes to specificfrequencies (channels) by varying an input DC control voltagebetween 0 to 2.7V.
“ With more than 50 percent of all handsets expected to incorporateFM tuners along with Bluetooth headsets, and with a rapidlyemerging mobile TV marketplace, we are providing mobile and mediadevice manufacturers with solutions to incorporate high-performanceantennas in their designs, ” said Jeff Shamblin, Vice President of Advanced Technology forEthertronics. “ A device ’ s ability to maintain high levels of reception coupled with anaesthetically pleasing form factor are key drivers for thecommercial success of these products and their respective services. ”
