The Port Lincoln foreshore and surrounds would be transformed undera plan by a state MP to relocate its port.
Liz Penfold will write to South Australian Premier Mike Rann askingfor a new port further north on Spencer Gulf, in line with a pushfrom local government, the local development board and the fishingindustry.
She says money could come from the Federal Government's BuildingAustralia Fund.
Mrs Penfold says it could create a city like Hobart withrecreational, rather than industrial, activities on its waterfront.
"Over time everything in the centre of Port Lincoln that's notcompatible with a city like this should be removed," she said.
"That means the silos, it means the fuel tanks, it means therailway.
"It won't happen overnight but I think it can happen and I think itshould happen and the stimulus is, of course, a new port is neededand it's needed on southern Eyre Peninsula."
Mrs Penfold says it could transform Port Lincoln.
"The harbour would be opened up to yachts, we'd have the cruiseships coming in, I think there'd be a linear park all the way fromthe wharf right though the city, we can then have bicycles andhorses, it connects up all our schools," she said.
"It makes a lot of sense to my mind."
