The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved a device Boston Scientific Corp. has developed to help treat heart failure, the company announced Friday.
Natick, Mass.-based Boston Scientific (NYSE: BSX) said the FDA approved the company's Acuity Spiral left ventricular lead for use with certain defibrillators and pacemakers.
A lead is an insulated wire that carries the heart signal to the implanted device and delivers energy from the device to the heart. In most cases, leads are passed into the heart through veins.
Boston Scientific earlier this week won FDA approval for two models of implantable defibrillators.
