Prices of Japanese electronic parts predicted to fall in spring

[2008-4-1]

TOKYO, Mar 26, 2008 (Asia In Focus via COMTEX) -- -- Prices for most electronic parts are expected to fall during the April-June period due to global economic uncertainties, but some components, such as DRAMs for personal computers, may grow more costly as supplies tighten, according to projections by Nikkei Inc. Television LCD panels will likely see lower prices following higher production ahead of the Beijing Olympic Games and demand could also weaken in the Japanese, United States and European markets stemming from concerns of an economic slowdown triggered by the U.S. subprime mortgage crisis.

* With sales of high-priced large LCD sets tapering off in Japan, the U.S. and Europe, TV manufacturers are expected to shift their focus to introducing low-priced products in China and other emerging markets. Consequently, the pressure to lower materials costs is sure to escalate.

* LCD panels for PCs however, will likely fare better due to tighter supplies and demand from such emerging markets as China and India is expected to continue growing
