Computers fall from car as thieves flee
[2008-3-31]
More than 20 laptop computers have been stolen from a Fyshwick business during a daring raid on Saturday night, ACT Police have revealed.
But the raid was interrupted by a security guard on a routine inspection, who called police after seeing the burglary in progress.
The thieves were forced to flee the scene with some of the computers falling from the open back doors of their car.
Police were called to the Gladstone Street business around 10.30pm on Saturday night.
They found the men had forced entry to the property and taken 23 laptops valued at more than $60,000.
"The offenders were in the process of transferring the stolen goods into a vehicle when the security guard arrived," ACT Police said in a statement.
"The vehicle then left at high speed, with three of the laptop computers falling out of the open rear door as it drove away. One offender also had fled on foot."
A thorough search of the area by police patrols and a K9 team failed to find the offenders, police said.
A forensics team analysed the scene yesterday.
Investigators are now seeking a blue four wheel drive, possibly a Mitsubishi Pajero, and a man described as being 190cm (6'3") tall, Caucasian, wearing dark clothing and unshaven.
