General Imaging, the worldwide exclusive licensee for GE digitalcameras, entered the crowded field of digital cameras in 2007 andthe sophomore year for the company has produced a bunch of newmodels.
Among them is the 10.1 megapixel E1035, which cosmetically is oneof the best-looking digital cameras on the market. The camera ismade with a finger print-free metal and comes in black, silver andthe one I tested – red. Although the looks are excellent, don't think this is the best of it because for the price thiscamera is a great deal.
There is no viewfinder, which is becoming typical for pocket sizeddigital cameras but the 2.7" LCD screen does have auto-brightnesstechnology to help viewing it in bright situations. There are stillsituations where it's just too bright to use the display and aviewfinder would be helpful, but users are going to have to acceptthis as a permanent change in the smaller digital cameras.
Other features include 4.5x digital zoom, all-glass lenses forsharper images, true color reproduction, 14 scene modes, in-camerapanorama stitching, red-eye removal, smile and blink detection, electronic image stabilization, MPEG-4 video recording and arechargeable lithium-ion battery.
With all of this, how did the camera work? Simple answer:excellent. Like most people do anyway with a new digital gadget, Ijust opened the box, put in the SD card and battery and started tofire away. The camera did what I wanted, it took good photos of my family andfriends while on a recent vacation (San Francisco). Images taken indaylight, indoors and outdoors were pretty consistent. I made veryfew adjustments besides shutting off the flash during situationswhere I knew it would go off. I didn't really use the scene modes much but I did manage to trickthe blink detection a few times. This feature alerts the user ifthe subject blinks, right after the photo is captured so the photocan be retaken. Even with this, while reviewing the photos on thescreen users can see if a subject's eyes are closed.
One single-power adapter will power all laptops, cell phones, iPodsand any other electronic gadget on the market today. It sounds good but best of all it's true with the new plugdeveloped by Green Plug.Recently Westinghouse Digital Electronics announced it hascommitted to using the technology and many others will be sure tofollow. Once a company decides to go with the Green Plug, it must embed thecompany's firmware into their devices to work with the poweradapters.
Users will only have to get the necessary adapter to connect thetwo and never worry about getting a new one, even after the gadgetstops working. For example, if your laptop dies, your new laptop– regardless of the brand – will work with the same plugassuming the companies have signed on to work with the Green Plug.
