SALEM: The Salem Government Hospital is in the news again. Thistime for the delay in treating a three-year-old, who had swalloweda 1.5-inch iron nail.

Harini, daughter of Suresh Kumar, 25, of Mettu Street inUdayapatti, swallowed the iron nail while playing in her house onMonday morning.

The parents first took the child to a private hospital nearby. Thex-ray showed the presence of the nail inside the large intestine.The girl was then referred to the Salem GH.

At Salem GH it was a very harrowing experience for the alreadybattered parents. At the OP ward, the duty doctors directed theparents to the 7th ward where there were only house surgeons.

The house surgeons directed the parents from there to the ENT wardsaying that the treatment could be taken there. ENT ward, in turn,directed them to children's ward, where the child was finallyadmitted after so much of struggle.
