Argonne researchers win R&D award for lithium ion battery technology

Researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) ArgonneNational Laboratory and their industrial partners have won twoR&D 100 Awards for innovative fluid sealing and lithium-ionbattery technologies.
Argonne scientists have been awarded 101 R&D 100 Awards sincethe awards introduction by R&D Magazine in 1964. Winning aprestigious R&D 100 Award -- dubbed the "Oscars ofinnovation" by The Chicago Tribune -- provides proof that aproduct is one of the most innovative ideas of the year, accordingto R&D Magazine.
"This is yet the latest example of how the Department ofEnergy and our National Laboratories are continuing to demonstrateworld-class leadership in innovation, as we enhance our energysecurity, national security and economic competiveness,"Energy Secretary Samuel W. Bodman said. "On behalf of theDepartment, I would like to congratulate all of our employees whohave earned R&D 100 awards and in particular this year'swinners."
"These awards demonstrate the scientific know-how andinnovative spirit on the part of Argonne researchers," saidArgonne Director Robert Rosner. "I offer my heartycongratulations to our winning scientists."
