Chinese snack shop owner executed for poisoning

A Chinese snack shop owner who confessed to poisoning food at a rival's store was executed Monday. At least 38 people died and hundreds were made ill from the poisoned breakfast snacks.

Chen Zhengping's execution was announced by China's official government news agency.
The Jiangsu High People's Court had denied his automatic appeal. China's Supreme Court approved the death sentence.
The incident occurred in Nanjing on Sept. 15. Chinese government officials said most of the victims were schoolchildren.
