Paper-cut in Chengcheng

Located in Northern Wei Plateau, Chengcheng, covering an area of 1100 square Kilometers, is next to Huanglong Mountain to the north, Lou River to the west, and as a land of agriculture and herding, with simple and people, it has long been praised as “the senior brother Chengcheng”. Paper-cut is the simplest art form in which people here decorate their environment. No matter  what they are, human beings and things, birds and animals, flowers, grass, insect and fish, or mountains, rivers, lakes and valleys, pavilions, terraces, mansions and towers, and legends and tales, all of them come alive through those authors’ scissors, and step into the line of modern art along with anticipations toward the future. Chengcheng paper-cut is Simple, vigorous and bold. Being exquisite and unstrained, employing exaggeration without losing exact likeness, it displays not only its robust aspect, but also delicate fineness, maintaining delicate and elaborate adorning beauty and of Guanzhong Paper-cut.  At the same time, it also symbolizes unique sketching concept in Chinese paper-cut and idealistic aesthetic consciousness. Plus, they have also created countless other pictures, like pictures of exotic flowers and rare herbs, fairy mountains and jade pavilions, and opera tales and folk legends with salient affection. It is also the reoccurrence of a long history, and lies the feature of Chengcheng paper-cut different from others. More than one thousand works of this kind have been collected in galleries and museums, over 30 pieces of paper cuts have been introduced in the book Shaanxi Folk Paper-cut Art.
