Praxair China Wins Contract for Reactor Cooling

Praxair China, a subsidiary of Praxair, Inc. (NYSE: PX), has signeda contract to supply liquid nitrogen and a state-of-the-artnitrogen cooling system (NCOOL(TM)) to the Jiangsu DefengPharmaceutical & Chemical Co., Ltd. (Defeng).

Defeng produces active pharmaceutical ingredients and willintroduce a new product which requires rapid cooling to below-30-degree C in a large volume reactor. After a thorough marketsurvey, Defeng selected Praxair China as its product and technologysupplier. The decision was based on the quality of the liquidnitrogen, reliability and the new technology offered by Praxair.

"This new application of the NCOOL(TM) technology opens up anothersegment of the fast growing cryogenic refrigeration market in thepharmaceutical industry," said David Chow, president of PraxairChina.

The NCOOL(TM) indirect cooling system features the highly efficientPraxair cryogenic heat exchanger. Because this cooling system usesthe heat exchange from nitrogen rather than mechanicalrefrigeration, it has minimal moving parts and does not rely onhalogenated coolants (CFCs or other ozone-depleting substances).The NCOOL(TM) heat exchanger is used for precision cooling ofproduction freeze-dryers and chemical reactors.
